Treating Hives

What Are Hives?
Up to one in four people suffer from hives, so it goes without question that many people out there want to know about treating hives. But what exactly are hives?
Simply put, hives are an allergic reaction that is visible on the skin. Typically they are a symptom of skin contact with something an individual is allergic to.
The medical term for hives is 'urticaria' and it is the most common skin reaction for an allergy. Hives are usually seen as reddish raised bumps on the skin with a white (pale) border surrounding a red and itchy raised patch of skin. See the image to the right for an example of what hives can look like.
Note that hives can appear singularly, or in connected batches.
Considering how irritating the itchiness can be, it goes without saying that sufferers want to know one thing: "How to cure hives"
Cure For Hives
The easiest and most common way to cure hives is to not cure them, but prevent them. Often it is far easier, and more pleasant, to avoid allergens than it is to remedy an already irritated skin reaction.
Further methods of prevention include consuming acidophilus to reduce inflammation (found in many yogurts), drinking plenty of water to help flush out toxins, adding more garlic to the diet to add in anti-bacterial and anti-viral strength, and consuming more vitamic C to help your body repair.
If prevention has failed and you find yourself with a break out hives, you are probably itching for a quick remedy.
The best and easiest cure for hives is to take some antihistamine. Most allergy pills are an antihistamine. Of course, a longer term solution would be to get epinephrine shots.
Other cures involve washing the area, wearing loose clothing, and other methods of preventing further skin irritation should a reaction occur.
Since stress can also induce hives, it is suggested that relaxation methods be employed and an effort to avoid further stress be made.
Although irritating, hives are not the end of the world, and are a rather welcome minimal allergic reaction (in most cases). But, in any case, you should now have enough information to help you with treating hives.
